Mark Batchelor

“Capital, Cashflow, and (tax) Contributions are key showstoppers for a small business, especially at the critical early stages of life. Small business owners are often left asking ‘how can I resource this essential housekeeping while trying to develop my product, find customers, promote the business, develop a competitive edge and generate sales?’The success of small businesses in the UK should be determined by their ingenuity and competitiveness of their product and services, instead of the inability to overcome restrictive financial terms offered by banks, and the shouldering of disproportionate tax burdens imposed by Government.”

About

Mark wanted to take all the experience, insight, and hard work he had performed over the years in the corporate world and invest it in building something that he owned, and can rightly be proud of. His business affords him the opportunity to still provide consultancy on marketing, communications, corporate strategy, and leadership while he begins to develop new enterprises and opportunities that fit with his interests and outlook. Mark is also looking to challenge some established business models and conventional thinking, especially as he believes that there will be fundamental changes ahead – and he wants to be in a position where he is leading that change.

Mark has always wanted to create something that has his personality stamped all over it, provides a vehicle for prosperity, smart thinking, and makes a difference in the world. The key benefit to him will be achieving fulfillment, and that his business will open many doors for him professionally and personally.

As a small business owner maximising the use of his time and limited resources are of great importance to Mark as it’s very easy to get sucked into the complexities of many different disciplines – financial management, legal responsibility, corporate responsibility, employment, product/services development, marketing, sales etc. For him, as a small business, he needs to cover all of these areas very quickly, professionally, and ensure all of his responsibilities are properly fulfilled.

When he is not running Markman OTW Mark enjoys a fit and healthy lifestyle which includes visiting the gym 3-4 times per week. His interests also include food and drink, so if he is not creating a great meal in the kitchen, he is out enjoying one at a restaurant. Music and a whole host of entertainment from a night out at the theatre to a party at a nightclub all form part of his social activity. Mark is also a self-confessed ‘petrolhead’ and makes no apology for enjoying the benefits of performance driving and motorsport whenever he gets the opportunity.

Founded in January 2008 and based in London, Markman OTW is an enterprise development business. The objective is to develop a range of enterprises in different sectors that have common values, and organisational synergies, yet distinctive brand identities for each of the sectors. Mark is trying to develop a mini conglomerate that leverages different brands at common audiences across his chosen markets, a 21st Century Virgin if you will, without the monolithic branding.

In the formative stage, the business has provided marketing consultancy, leadership, and direction to public sector bodies and government. In terms of the enterprise development activity, standalone products/services will be developed to compete in the commercial sector. Key market interest sectors include; music, sport, health, clothing, food, retail.
