Motivating Employees and Consultants

I recently went "undercover" as a mentee at my client Rockstar Group's Speed Mentoring event so that I could write a blog post from the perspective of Rockstar's clients.

I am just about to take on my first member of staff so I was keen to find out the expert mentors' opinions on how to build a dynamic team and keep them motivated and incentivised to perform at their happy best. Rockstar mentor and founder of www.SocksforHappyPeople.com Tom Minter, gave me some excellent advice. He said "be crystal clear on how each team member can magnify their own personal missions through your organisation and learn how to communicate this to them so that they are inspired to work for you."

I have already begun implementing this excellent piece of advice in the last couple of weeks by openly discussing my new employee's business goals with him and ensuring that the projects that he is going to work on are in alignment with his personal career goals. This is surely the very best way to ensure he is happy, productive and successful and that my business is also all of these things as a result of the happiness of both me and my staff.

I also know that if I am happy at work and my staff are happy at work, my customers will be receiving a fantastic service.

So my question to all of you, as small business leaders, is this: "What questions are you asking your employees and consultants about their ambitions and dreams and what measures are you putting in place to ensure that you help them achieve them while they help you achieve yours?"
