Can you tell me a bit about your business?
We are a coaching and sports science based business started in 2004 offering training plans, fitness testing and consultancy to endurance athletes and motor racing drivers. We operate the Porsche Human Performance Centre at Silverstone on behalf of Porsche GB where we work with drivers of all levels (from road drivers to elite racing drivers) finding ways to improve their performance in the car. We also work with corporate businesses to implement wellness programmes to encourage healthier living. What challenges did you face in the early days? What are you facing now?
The main challenge early on was building up our database of potential customers, now its keeping up the momentum and managing a diverse business
How do you use QuickBooks in the company?
We’ve just started using QuickBooks for the company accounts and VAT returns. It is enabling us to gain much more detailed financial information at the touch of a button

What features do you use most in QuickBooks?
QuickBooks is brilliant because you can see immediately the state of the company’s finances. The reports are especially useful because they can be customised easily and then memorised. We’re using the ‘class’ system to categorise income and expenditure, this enables us to do Profit and Loss per segment of the business for example we can now see the individual profit for Coaching, Triathlon and MTB Training Camps, Swim Analysis days, Lab and Wellness testing.
So, what are your plans for the business?
A new website is in the pipeline and we’re working on partnerships with 220 Magazine, USN and Mail Sport Swim Specialists

To join the Federation of Small Business – good advice at the end of the phone and a discounted merchant account
