Key pledges:

About the Charter

“Small businesses represent the backbone of the British economy. We are the nation’s shopkeepers, its tradesmen, farmers, freelancers and home-based businesses. Today, Small Business Britain faces a number of clear challenges that offer both real opportunities and real threats. We pledge to work with each other and with the wider business community to find and adopt business solutions that will ensure real success and real prosperity in the future, and we call on like-minded businesses to do the same.”

“We, as representatives of Small Business Britain, call on the government, elected bodies, banks and the wider business community to work with us in creating the optimum conditions for the success and prosperity of British small businesses.”

To UK small businesses

“The success of Small Business Britain lies in our own hands. Whilst others can help or hinder our prosperity, the real solutions to our challenges must come from us. We are the masters of our own destiny.

“We value our independence and the rewards of our hard work. We recognise that by working together not only will we benefit individually but, as a major collective contributor to the British economy, so will our customers, family, friends and the community within which we live and work.”

What other people are saying about the charter

“I wholeheartedly agree with the Small Business Charter. Since establishing my own small business in 2007, I now appreciate more than ever the value of people, networks and cohesive collaboration. By combining forces, we can ensure that decision-makers at all levels understand what is required to significantly, and successfully, support small businesses and facilitate our leadership role in returning the country to economic prosperity.”
